I started this adventure with NO experience, NO Motorcyle and NO gear.
I figured it would probably be valuable to other amateurs and riders with no experience in the ADV world.

Dan my friends and I are going on the tat late spring if 2019. We work so we cant do entire tat. Figure we willake it avout end of Oklahoma. Hauling bikes??? Whats most economical way to haul 3 or 4 bikes? I seen u used uhaul but when I priced a truck 1 way back home to South Carolina I was shocked with about a $1200 quote. Suggestions?
Hey Walter! That’s great! You’ll have a blast for sure! As for an alternative to a Uhaul… I not so sure.
– You could possibly all ship your bikes, but I don’t know what the cost would be on that.
– If someone has a truck and trailer, you could drive them up that way, but then you’d have to find a place to park the truck and then have to go get it.
– You could ride your bikes to the trail head, but I rode my KLR home from Mississippi and that was horrendously uncomfortable.
– Magic. This is the most ideal method. Magically arrive there with the bikes.
You need to talk a non riding person into being your sag driver. Then you would have tools and back up supplies at the ready all through the trip. The sag driver could bounce from agreed upon locations to meet and camp with the group at various points. So it could be a fun get away for them too.
Actually when we were originally planning this trip, my wife was going to drive our truck and trailer ahead with parts and all that, but then we got pregnant and had the baby 3 months before the trip… So we went without backup.
Danan, please add Mark Donovan’s shop to your list under Tenn.
